Prof. h.c. Frederik Paulsen donated his collection of paintings to set up this museum. The painting collection impressively reflects the fascination with maritime motifs in the 19th and beginning 20th century showing settings from Bergen in the Netherlands to Bergen in Norway. Based on this collection special exhibitions are organized in cooperation with national and international partners. These special exhibitions create productive dialogues between the historic works of Prof. Paulsen's collection and important positions of European art history as well as contemporary art. Each of the changing special exhibitions is accompanied by a comprehensive programme of events and special offers for children and teens.
