The maritime museum is located in a former fish market hall at the Kiel harbour. Is there a better place to vividly present the maritime history of Kiel, the town of the navy, industry and workers? Young and old can discover many things in the permanent exhibition: models representing ships from all times, nautical instruments, ship paintings, figureheads, the legendary Kiel marine suit for boys and inventions like a model of the first German submarine, an original sonar, dioramas and the emperor’s panorama 3-D-picture-show. In addition, monumental seascape paintings, other maritime paintings and the kitchen-cum-living-room of a shipyard worker are presented. Take your time for a visit. You are rewarded by an exciting tour of maritime Kiel.
