highlights of the collection: Gothic Hall with religious art of the Middle Ages, paintings by Lucas Cranach, treasure chamber of the Middle Ages, Renaissance castle chapel and Deer Hall, arts and crafts from the Renaissance to classicism, folkloric art, Dutch and North German paintings as well as Persian art of the 17th century, rococo section with the faience collection of Axel Springer, gallery of the 19th century with paintings of the Danish ‘Golden Age’, Art Noveau section, Rolf Horn Foundation and Collection as well as Hermann Gerlinger Collection with works of the German expressionism (‘Brücke’, Rohlfs, Nolde, Kokoschka, Barlach, Tappert), contemporary art
on the castle grounds: the sculpture garden and the restored baroque garden with a monumental Hercules groupspecial exhibitions: large temporary exhibitions of national importance are shown regularly in the former riding-hall

- tour of the castle / historical rooms: May-August, 15th to 30th October on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at 11 am (except Saturday), 1.30 pm and 3 pm
- every 2nd Sunday of a month a guided tour on a special subject at 11.30 am
