The „Kindheitsmuseum“ (childhood museum) presents the history of different courses of childhood years since about 1890. The exhibition sections are put up according to time and topic. On display there are, for instance, toys, children’s literature, clothing, furniture as well as numerous photographs that depict the living conditions of children. It becomes obvious that there can be no uniform picture of children’s life in a certain decade. The absence or presence of toys, differences in education, living and clothing show the special situation of children in the town and the countryside, in the bourgeoisie and the worker’s class. The museum tries to trace influences of economics, politics, education and literature on the development of children. The living conditions of children in the past and today are not romanticised. The exhibits and written records are intended to stimulate reflection and further thought.

Museum games: memory, quiz tours, sound riddle etc.
Games and creative activities are offered each Friday from 3-5 pm in July and August.
Afternoon and weekend events announced on posters, in the newspaper or on the radio. Telephonic inquiry at the museum also possible.

Responsible body of the museum is the „Verein Kindheitsmuseum e.V.“ (registered association for the Kindheitsmuseum). The museum is located on the ground floor of the former district court of the Probstei. It is accessible to wheelchairs. The community owns the building. It has provided the building for the museum, which is run by volunteers, for free.
