The New Botanical Garden of the Christian-Albrechts-Universität extends for eight hectares. It offers a comprehensive insight into the fascinating world of plants to academics, students and the public alike. Plants from all climate zones of the world bloom in the open air and the largest greenhouse building open to the public in Schleswig-Holstein. On a walk through a North American wood and past Mediterranean vegetation sections, heath, dunes, an alder fold, and an alpine rock garden the visitor reaches a Chinese coppice. He can stop at information boards along the walk. Cacti and succulents grow; orchids blossom and tropical flowers smell in the greenhouses. Visitors can discover where pepper grows and see how coffee, cacao or tea look like.
