The Information Centre on the national park „Schleswig-Holsteinisches Wattenmeer“ (Schleswig-Holstein mud-flat) familiarises its visitors with the mud-flat ecosystem. It presents the interrelations between mud-flat and human being, between science and nature conservation.
The “Multimar Wattforum” offers a real adventure exhibition on more than 800 qm. 11 large and 17 small tanks invite visitors to take a look at the fascinating under water world of the North Sea. Activity stations, true-to-the original landscape models and interactive computer presentations complete the offer of the Information Centre. The exhibition with its clear explanations is designed for all target and age groups. It offers visitors the possibility to actively solve the mysteries of the mud-flat themselves. By looking through a microscope even the smallest jigger flee seems to be huge and anyone who has touched a starfish wonders at the clever adaptation mechanisms of these maritime animals. In the newly opened section “whales, mud-flat and oceans” visitors can experience the world of whales. The highlight is a lifesize model of a sperm whale that was stranded on the North Sea coast. Information on the way of life, endangerment and protection of porpoises and sperm whales is given. |
