Description
The industrial museum in the Herrenwyk district in Lübeck presents the history of the blast-furnace and its workers on the spot. The furnace was closed in 1981. In addition, there are special exhibitions on the industrial history of Schleswig-Holstein. The aspect of the social and economic development in Lübeck, which took place in the course of industrialization, is also dealt with. The exhibition is located in the department store of the former Herrenwyk metal works on the edge of the company-owned worker’s settlement, which was built in 1906. Along with the collections on industrial history in Elmshorn, Kiel and Neumünster the institution in Lübeck is one of the few museums of this kind in Schleswig-Holstein.The academic staff of the museum offers guided tours by appointment.
