Description
In the nature conservation centre Bergenhusen the main emphasis is put on the white stork and its habitat. Every year thousands of visitors, among them many children, adolescents and school classes, come to the village in Stapelholm during the six month of the stork season. They take part in guided tours and have the possibility to learn about the stork, its endangerment and its protection in the exhibition of the centre. In this museum other animal and plant species, which need a similar biosphere like the stork, are also taken into consideration.
Tips
Signposted nature trails for walks or bicycle tours through the river and meadow scenery of the region.
A signposted tour through the stork’s village passes many occupied stork’s nests and ends at the nature conservation centre.

Arrival by Car
Coming from Hamburg on the motorway A 7 exit ‘Rendsburger Kreuz” in the direction of Rendsburg. Follow the signs leading to St. Peter-Ording. Take the federal road B 202 through Hohn and Erfde until you reach Norderstapel. In Norderstapel turn off to the right in the direction of Kropp. After approx. 3 kms turn off to the right to Bergenhusen. In Bergenhusen follow the signs to the nature conservation centre.
