Über ein Strandstück hinweg weitet sich der Blick auf die durch Boote und Krabbenfischer belebte Ostsee in die Ferne, wo hinter zartem Silberstreifen als schmale Horizontlinie eine Küste sichtbar wird. Die silberfarbenen Lichtreflexe auf dem Wasser und auf den detailgenau in Grau- und Brauntönen gemalten Steinen fügen die Bildzonen zu einer geschlossenen Einheit nach dem Prinzip "dunkle Nähe - lichte Ferne" zusammen. - Burmester hat mehrere Bilder mit Strandmotiven 1894, zumeist in dem Fischerdorf und Seebad Hellebaek am dänischen Öresund-Ufer auf Seeland, gemalt, die er auf der ersten Jahresschau der Schleswig-Holsteinischen Kunstgenossenschaft 1894 ausstellte.
