Studium der Biologie, Chemie und Physik in Königsberg, München und Bonn, 1899 Promotion Dr. phil. In Bonn, 1900-1912 wissensch. Assistent am Botanischen Institut in Heidelberg, 1902 Habilitation in Heidelberg, 1908 nichtetatmäßiger außerord. Professor, 1908-1909 Forschungsreise in die südostasiatische Inselwelt, Britisch- und Deutsch-Ostafrika sowie Ägypten, 1912 außerord. Professor an der Technischen Hochschule in Braunschweig,
1917 ordentl. Professor an der Landwirtschaftlichen Hochschule in Hohenheim bei Stuttgart, 1922 bis zur Emeritierung 1951 ordentl. Professor für Botanik in Kiel.
Tischlers besonderes Interesse galt der Chromosomenforschung und deren Nachbardisziplinen.
