Porträt des Adam Olearius (1599 - 1671), Schriftsteller, Gelehrter und Diplomat im Dienste von Friedrich III. von Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf. Der Dargestellte steht vor einem zum Teil verdecktem Bücherregal und hält in der rechten Hand eine Halskette mit einem sogenannten Gnadenpfennig. Darunter der Text: Symnl. ex Psalm 73 In Consilio tuo duces me, et postea in gloriam me suscipies Der ovale Rahmen trägt die Umschrift: ADAM OLEARIUS ASCANIUS SAXO. IN AULA CIMBRICA BIBLIOTHECARIUS & MATHEM. ÆTATIS SUÆ LV. Unter dem Rahmen: Quisquis es, huc adhibe visus, OLEARIUS eccum. ILLE MEUS præbet volta tuenda tibi. Quæ Ruthenorum dignatus noscere Cæsar, Et quæ Sofy tuus Persia dives, Herus. Ingenij nequijt quia caelo fingier instar, Noscendum ingenio se dedit ipse suo.
