In May 2008 the new Ostsee Info-Center (Baltic Sea Information Centre) in Eckernförde opened ist doors directly at the sea.
Before entering the centre, one hardly anticipates the abundance of topics presented here. Three aquariums show the underwater world of the Baltic Sea from the shallow water zone to the deep water zone. The adventure tunnel offers a virtual walk over the ground of Eckernförde Bay. A landscape model demonstrates cliff line, salt marsh and beach. At the „wall of senses“ you can hear, see and feel marine characteristics. In the restored bridge of the fishing vessel „Klara“ you can experience a simulated fishing tour on the bay of Eckernförde. The main attraction of the Ostsee Info-Center is a touch pool. It is designed in such a way that it allows the marine animals that live in there to retreat whenever they want. In addition to watch there is first of all the possibility to touch and feel the plants and animals that live in the pool. The touch pool area is always attended by a skilled emloyee. Microscopes and binoculars are available for your own scientific investigations. Exciting movie screenings complete the offer. A roof-deck with small botanical garden gives you the possibility to experience Eckernförde Bay in reality and compare it with the virtual life presented in the centre. |
