In the Frisian island house built in 1759 a regional history collection is shown. The Sylt chronicler Hansen established it. A section on pre- and early history supplemented by geological finds documents the development and the colonization of the North Sea island. Tombstones and stone coffins in front of the museum point out ancient burial rites. Traditional Costume, silver jewellery, furniture and farming tools show Frisian culture. Model ships, ship paintings and whaling tools present the history of seafaring. Works of important artists of the island like Dirks or Feddersen are exhibited. In the section “important figures of Sylt” the emphasis is put on the constitution-fighter and landvogt Uwe Jens Lornsen.
