In 1965 the collection of study material for lessons was begun in the spacious attic of the then elementary school in Hollingstedt. This community close to Schleswig is idyllically situated on the river Treene. Soon the school collection became so extensive that the premises had to be enlarged and altered. Today the teacher Gerd Gramlow is in charge of the "Heimatkundliche Schulsammlung Hollingstedt" (Hollingstedt local history school collection), which is the only one of its kind in Schleswig-Holstein.
In the house, for instance, an almost originally preserved classroom from 1876 can be found in addition to the other items from the school history. These are presented in more than 20 exhibition recesses and rooms.
